Grade Converter

The German grading system is different from the Luxembourg one. While Luxembourg uses a 60-point system (anything above 30 is considered a pass), Germany uses a different system that is also slightly different at university level compared to school grading.

The German university grading system

At German universities, 1.0 is the best grade. Everything above (1.3, 1.7, ...) is worse. Grades are usually given in steps of 0.3 (and 0.4 in some cases) except for calculated averages. There is no grade between 4.0 and 5.0. In other words, the following grades exist: 1.0, 1.3, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.7, 3.0, 3.3, 3.7, 4.0, 5.0. Everything better than 5.0 is considered a pass, and 5.0 is the only failing grade. (This does not mean less effort is required; often 50% of exam points are enough for a 4.0)
